What is the difference between pop music and popular music?

Pop is a genre but how is the sound difference from popular music like does pop have a certain sound.What exactly is pop music I mean in the 1970′s R&B was really popular cause that decade had the best soul music ever made and I dont consider it pop music cause I **** pop music today!

    miley is pop but lil john is popular

    10 people are listening to jonas and 15 are listening to taylor

    jonas are pop but taylor is popluar

    jonas is moore popluar than miley but they both are “pop” music

    Well, POP music are not the revived or the oldies, they are the current trends of Music I guess. But I think it depends on the Beat and the Lyrics or the Arrangement of the song to be able to consider if its POp, Classical, or R&B. Popular are the latest Hits of course.
