How much money would I make if I become a pop rock star?

Damien Vs Three Days Grace asked:

You know like pop and rock in the same song, like how Daniel Powter and 30 seconds to mars played you Had a bad day and Kings and Queens. But anyway, I have been singing for nine years, I am going to a music high school, and I plan on going to college for music. So what I am trying to say is how much money would I get if I graduated from college and my songs were a hit.

Depends on how smart you are on the business end, a lot of aspiring musicians get screwed over because they are over-zealous about becoming instantly famous and rich.

There is no fixed salary for a ‘celebrity’ such as a band member. It depends on how successful your band is, who your record label is with, and if your doing adverts or promotions for other companies.

Lets just say its much hirer than the average wage of a hard working middle class guy.

It depends on how sucessful you are.

It also depends on what you or your band is running. If you run a band website, it may take up some of the money earned from your total salary.

Most of the biggest names in pop or rock music never went to college. I would say that you’re already leaning towards $0.00.

Top tier rock stars don’t make as much money as top tier movie stars do. But if you had a hit album, and had all the songwriting credits on it, you could make a few million.

Keep in mind that even the artists with the biggest successes are usually washed up within 3 years or so. The ones who maintain a career for longer than a decade are the exceptions, not the rule.

You would probably make no money because you are not good enough to be a pop star. Sorry.

Yah… the likelihood of becoming an actual pop star is probably below 5%, but if you DO make it then you’ll probably make a lot of money.

But again, the chance of making it big is really low. Most people that do make it is because they were most likely lucky.
