Rock&Pop: Were Freddie Mercury/Queen and Queen fans ever made fun of?

Avena Sativa asked:

Usually pop artists get a lot of sh*t for being *** without even having to be ***.

    People use *** as an insult not to sound sexually discriminating, Lady Gaga has no talent. Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest artists of all time there’s no comparison.

    @Mark

    Sorry for coming off as a ****. Lady Gaga does have talent to an extent but in comparison to Freddie Mercury it’s very minimal.

    @Iceage: She obviously has some talent. Don’t be a snobby prick

    I dont think they were made fun of because they listened to *** musicians. Probably simply because they listened to Queen in general.

    I’m not fan of GaGa, but I can admit she has talent. Freddie didn’t keep his sexuality secretly really, but never explicitly said he was *** until he was revealed he had AIDS. But Queen were flamboyant and critics didn’t take them seriously, back then. Now it seems everybody knows at least one Queen Song! I wouldn’t say they are that good of band, making one-shop pop songs, but really good ones. Freddie Mercury is one hell of a singer.

    I personally take the time to make fun of Queen fans, so yes, they do.

    No. I mean, I didn’t know anyone who was a Queen fan during the years they were originally together, but nobody made fun of them. And nobody was aware of them being ***. Nobody was openly *** in that era.

    I don’t think we would’ve made fun of them due to anyone’s sexuality. Even earlier in the 70s, we were playing a lot of Bowie and Mott the Hoople and New York Dolls, who *seemed* more likely to be ***.

    So, yeah, Erowid hit the nail on the head.
