RP: What’s the difference between pop-rock and pop-punk and what do you prefer?
Joan asked:
I would say pop-punk is faster, and rougher, so to speak, and pop rock is catchier, but what do you think?

Yeah, that’s a good way of putting it.
I’ve been getting into a lot of classic pop-punk lately, although pop-rock is a much more broad term.
I can’t really decide which one I really prefer, although the Buzzcocks are making me lean more towards pop-punk….

Pop Rock is a mix between the light lyrics of pop and the catchy music of rock. It’s almost a pop song played on a guitar. Pop Punk is a mix between Punk Rock and Pop.
Pop Rock as u said is slower usually than Pop Punk and have brighter meanings. Pop Punk may have the heavy rock beats, while Pop Rock has the lighter beats. Some consider Pop Punk as alternative because of the heavy beat.
Oh and I prefer Pop Rock.
