What are some good Celtic rock/pop bands or groups?

Jacob asked:

I have been looking for some traditional Irish and Scottish music with a twist. You know, with bagpipes, tin whistle, fiddle, flute, ect. with a rock n’ roll or pop sound.

best I can offer for ‘Scottish trad Rock’

These guys are Folk, but some of their music [usually late 90s / early 00s **] has a hint of Rock or Pop to it…

    Scottish :~
    Capercaillie ** / Karen Matheson
    Old Blind Dogs **
    Deaf Shepherd

    Irish :~
Clannad ** [they come closest, I think, from 1982+]
    Lunasa
    Flook

You are more likely to find that sort of sound in Folk-Rock, which is usually English / British groups who play ‘traditional’ music, which includes some Scottish and Irish :~

    Fairport Convention
    Pentangle [Scots]
    Trees
    Shelagh McDonald [Scots]
    John Martyn
    Mellow Candle [Irish]
    Steeleye Span

    Folk-influenced Rock :~
    Jethro Tull
    Blackmore’s Night

Floggin Molly anyone? Dropkick Murphys is a little harder edged, but they do use A LOT of bagpipes. Also the very unknown band Brobdingnagian Bards are fantastic. Pretty much all they use are a guitar and flute.
