Why is it no one today knows the difference between Rock Roll and other Rock/Pop/Folk songs?

cavsargetank asked:

Rock and Roll consists of a fast played Blues progression, usually in 12 bars or 3 chords played as 4-2-2-1-1-1-1. meaning each chord is repeated as in A-A-A-A-D-D-A-A-E-D-A-E while Rock grew out of this.

Because that’s not a universally accepted truth. That may be what some music critics or experts decided on and told everyone, but I garuntee you most people who play the best rock ‘n’ roll neither know or care about that kind of thing. Hell, a lot of them can’t even read music.

Personally I think putting that kind of super structured definition on it is silly and doesn’t serve any real purpose, if it sounds like rock ‘n’ roll it’s rock ‘n’ roll to me, let the experts say what they will.
